Box Score Of The Day -- July 7th

Enough with the Yankee hating, back to football. Today's box score is our second against Kansas. This one was fun because it was VY's last home game. We still vividly remember Mike Lupica bashing Mack Brown on Sunday Reporters for running up the score. Of course he was referring to Texas kicking a field goal, to go up 52-0. From 35 yards away. After going 3 and out. In the first half. After this one we really started to believe that USC was in trouble as KU didn't have a first down in the first half. Texas 66, Kansas 14.

This one was awesome and really helped build upon Alex Rodriguez's reputation as a pansy. Allegedly here's what happened: A-Rod gets plunked in the elbow by Bronson Arroyo. A-Rod complains to Bronson that it hurt instead of taking his free pass like a man. Our hero, Jason Varitek, tells A-Rod "c'mon Alex...you know we don't hit guys batting .250 on purpose." Fight ensues. Who knows if it's what really went down, but we like to think it is. Red Sox 11, Yankees 10.

Box Score Of The Day -- July 5th

In honor of the Yankees currently sucking, we present a series of games in which the Yankees sucked. The first one: Yankees 4, Red Sox 6.

Box Score Of The Day -- July 4th

Today's box score is just to remind you that freedom costs $1.05. USA 4, USSR 3 (warning, PDF...go to Hockey -- Medal Round, Game Report 2-Playoffs if you're really interested).

Box Score Of The Day -- July 3rd

One of our dads turned 56 yesterday, so today's box score is in his honor. Before the '05 Longhorns many considered it the greatest offense in college football history. Certainly no QB until VY had as good a season as Shaun King in 1998. For the record, King was the first QB in college football history to pass for 3,000 yards and rush for 500...VY became the second. Today's box score: BYU 27, Tulane 41.

Box Score Of The Day -- July 2nd

What the hell...why not? We were both there, one of us loves LSU, everybody hates Oklahoma. LSU 21, OU 14.

Box Score Of The Day -- July 1st

It's July! That means exactly two months of this nightmare to go before football season begins again! Today's box score secured a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament for Texas and snapped a 37-game home winning streak for the Sooners. Texas came back from a 15-point second half deficit to win the game. Texas 76, Oklahoma 71.

Box Score Of The Day -- June 30th

Last day in June. We found this video and wanted to post it. If you remember "Cha-Ching" you are a true fan of America's Team. It's a loss, but today's box score was the first ever Saints game for one of us. Almost two decades of losing to the 49ers sucked, it's nice to see that the Saints have won 5 of the last 6. 49ers 13, Saints 12.

Box Score Of The Day -- June 29th

Along the theme of TJ Ford games we rather enjoyed, this one may take the cake. It was the only time we rushed the court during our time in Austin, and it was Jason Klotz's finest moment (hitting a key hook shot with just over a minute to play). For those that don't remember, OU used to have a good basketball team, and had beaten Texas 8 straight leading up to the game in Austin. That's right, there was a time when Texas had lost to OU 4 straight in football, 8 straight in basketball, the national media said Mack Brown couldn't coach and Rick Barnes was a coaching geinus. We're glad to see times have changed. OU 61, Texas 67.

Box Score Of The Day -- June 28th

Today's the NBA Draft, TJ Ford was drafted, so it made sense to have a TJ-related box score today. Texas vs. Baylor isn't usually the most entertaining game, but 2003 was different. Those that remember TJ's dunk that day still remember it as arguably the finest single play in recent Longhorn basketball history. TJ came from nowhere along the baseline, grabbed a missed shot off the rim with one hand above the rim, and slammed it down. One of us was there, one of us was watching on television, both of us were amazed. Today's box score: Texas 82, Baylor 71.

Box Score Of The Day -- June 27th

In honor of tomorrow's NBA Draft, we present arguably Kevin Durant's finest game as a Longhorn. Texas 76, Texas Tech 64. Kevin Durant had 37 points and 23 rebounds, a pretty good night for #35.

We heard through the grapevine (read: BON) that one of our favorite Texas exes Nathan Vasher hit the jackpot with the Chicago Bears. Vasher signed a five-year $28 million extension that will keep him in Chicago through 2012. In honor of Vasher's big pay day, today's box score is from one of his biggest moments. This victory kept Texas's chances of a Big XII Championship and BCS game alive (for two more weeks), and continued the Horns dominance of Nebraska in Lincoln. Many of us wondered what the hell Nebraska's offense was doing on the field with under :20 to play in the game and in field goal range. Vasher's INT near the goalline sealed the win. Texas 27, Nebraska 24.

Box Score Of The Day -- June 25th

68 days left. That means 68 more box scores. With apologies to Jonathan Brater, this game was loads of fun and our first real dance in the big time. Texas 39, Michigan 38.

Box Score Of The Day -- June 24th

Yesterday's 77-0 box score got us thinking that there really was only one box score for today. We'll probably never again see a conference championship game as lopsided as this one. Texas stopped playing the game less than halfway through the third quarter. Colorado QB Joel Klatt got hit so hard by Drew Kelson that he didn't blink while being walked from the field to the sideline once he could stand, and Texas scored its 10 touchdowns in the first 11 possessions. Good times: Texas 70, Colorado 3.

Box Score Of The Day -- June 23rd

Continuing on the theme of non-Texas games that made us smile, today's box score set the standard for beating the crap out of Texas A&M. Plus it gave us a reason to post the picture above. Poor aggies indeed.

June 22, 2007

Box Score Of The Day -- June 22nd

We're posting today's box score of the day simply because it made us happy. Aaron Rodgers once said:

"I thought it was a little classless how Coach Brown was begging for votes after the [Texas A&M] game," Rodgers said. "I think a team's record and the way you play should speak for itself, and you shouldn't have to complain about the BCS system. Coach Tedford isn't going to, although he's frustrated just like we are. I think we're a bigger team, classier than that."
We aren't here to talk about the past, but we definitely enjoyed Texas Tech 45, Cal 31

Box Score Of The Day -- June 21st

We haven't really gone old school in our box scores of the day posts, so we're going to do that today. Until the 2006 Rose Bowl this was probably the biggest and most famous football game in UT history. While we were over at BON we called a book written about the game our favorite UT-related book out there. Today's box score: Texas 15, Arkansas 14.

June 20, 2007

Box Score Of The Day -- June 20th

Today's box score is more personal than most. We've fancied ourselves Saints fans since long before we started this blog, and this box score was about the only really great memory we had until this season. Plus it really signified the downfall of Kurt Warner's career. Saints 31, Rams 28.

St. Louis....... 7 0 0 21 -- 28
New Orleans... 0 10 7 14 -- 31

Box Score Of The Day -- June 19th

Today's box score comes from our very first Texas football game attended in person. At the time we were very impressed with a 27-0 victory. In retrospect, not so much. Texas 27, North Texas 0.

Score by Quarters 1 2 3 4 Score
----------------- -- -- -- -- -----
North Texas......... 0 0 0 0 - 0
