Mike Maroth Goes to Sleep in Detroit, Wakes Up in Hell

We resisted temptation to comment here that Detroit is very close to being in hell anyway. Oops! Guess we just blew it.

So, Mike Maroth got traded to the World Champions from the World Runners-Up and promptly started a game at Shea Stadium. The Newest Cardinal of Them All and his overpowering 82-mph fastball* then proceeded to throw 7.1 innings of 2-hit, one-run ball. And guess what? He left the game in a 1-1 tie because the Cards could only muster one little run despite eight hits. So, of course, Shawn Green (who is currently our least favorite Jewish athlete) won the game on a walk-off solo shot to lead off the bottom of the 11th inning--just the Mets' third hit of the ballgame. Cheering for this year's version of the St. Louis Redbirds is getting more difficult by the day. But somehow we know there is no way we will be able to stop trying--even if the team ownership has.
