Say it Ain't So, Rick...

As Our Bro in Spain aptly put it this morning, "Damn! Why can't we just have heroes anymore?" Rick Ankiel--whose 7 RBIs and 2 dingers spurred a huge Cards win yesterday--now appears to be linked to an HGH scandal based out of Florida. We'd like to reserve judgment until all the facts are in, but it's tough to believe that there's not some truth to this story. Even the biggest feel-good story of the year (maybe the decade) in Major League Baseball is tainted by this steroids nonsense. Yahoo! Sports's Jeff Passan sums it up nicely. Bud Selig: it's time to resign. Players: it's time to accept an actual, serious, legitimate testing regime with actual, serious, legitimate consequences. Eventually, this is going to disgust enough baseball fans to really have a negative effect on attendance, TV, and merchandise revenue. Maybe that's the only way they'll ever stop cheating. The money and tacit approval that allows--and encourages--this kind of thing to happen comes from all of us.
